A Sanitation Collector loads/unloads solid waste/recyclables to and from sanitation vehicles. The person in this job will be expected to safely perform manual tasks with speed and efficiency. This person works under the daily authority of a Sanitation Operator (vehicle driver) who will assign duties needed to complete daily collection routes. This person will be responsible for cleaning and maintenance of sanitation vehicles and dumpsters. Job performance will be based on compliance with established guidelines, satisfactory performance of required job duties and schedules set by the Department. This person must be capable of being insured under the City’s insurance carrier. A person in this job will perform other duties as necessary and assigned.

This position installs, repairs and maintains water and sewer system components, according to City standards and regulations; ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision. This position requires mechanical aptitude to exercise good independent judgment. Subject to call out in emergencies, scheduled to work nights, weekends and/or holidays on occasion as necessary. This position is supervised by the Crew Leader with ultimate oversight by the Public Works Supervisor. This is highly responsible, professional, management position under the direction of the City Manager.  The Director is responsible for the operation and efficient administration of the Department, including organizing, directing and coordinating the activities of the several divisions and establishing Department policies, planning long term programs and resolving complex, operational and technical problems.  Supervision of operations and staff activities are exercised directly and through division heads.  Assignments are usually in the form of broad administrative policy and instructions or general program objectives.  Performance is reviewed and evaluated by the City Manager for general adherence to instructions and City policies.  Budgets are prepared and administered and annual and long‑range programs are researched, formulated and implemented.  Considerable public contact is required which demands a high level of skill and professionalism.  The position is also responsible for maintenance, repair and construction of all facilities and structures.  Position requires occasional night, weekend and/or holiday work and the Director may be called out to assist with City emergencies.

This position requires working knowledge of auto mechanics, medium/heavy truck mechanics, welding and fabrication, and some construction equipment and small engine repair. The incumbent is charged with the responsibility in repair and maintenance of the City’s vehicles and equipment.
