Public Works
Department of Public Works Print

The Department of Public Works consists of a number of divisions which provide a broad range of services to the public, including:

Street Division

Patching streets;install and repair sidewalks; Cleaning and repairing drainage systems; Mowing right-of-ways; Public construction projects; Maintenance of public buildings and Street signage.

Fleet Maintenance

Maintains all City work vehicles and equipment; Utilization of vendors for vehicle repair, if necessary; Implementation and carry-through of preventive maintenance program for City vehicles and equipment.

Solid Waste
Collection of garbage and trash.

Water and Wastewater

Maintain existing water distribution and sewer collection lines; Provide safe drinking water; Provide safe sewage disposal; Maintenance of two sewer disposal plants, three water plants and related equipment.

Commercial Dumpster customers: please be aware of the changes to our pick up schedule that will occur in 2010 due to the following Holidays:

July 5, 2010 (Monday) Independence Day - Monday pick ups will be on Tuesday, July 6, 2010.  Tuesday pick ups will be on Wednesday, July 7, 2010.
November 25, 2010 (Thursday) & November 24, 2010 (Friday) Thanksgiving Holiday - Thursday pick ups will be on Wednesday, November 24, 2010.  Friday pick ups will be as regularly scheduled.
December 23, 2010 (Thursday) & December 24, 2010 (Friday) Christmas Holiday - Thursday pick ups will be on Wednesday, December 22, 2010.  Friday pick ups will be on Thursday, December 23, 2010.
December 31, 2010 (Friday) New Year's Eve Holiday - Thursday pick ups will be on Wednesday, December 29, 2010.  Friday pick ups will be on Thursday, December 30, 2010.
 
Residential Garbage Collection Print

If you have dumpster service do not go by this schedule. Please call 540-3860 and get our schedule changes for dumpster service.

Residential garbage and commercial can customers please be aware of the changes to our pick up schedule for residential service that will occur in 2009 due to the following Holidays:

January 1, 2010 (Friday) New Year's Holiday Thursday pick ups will be on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 and Friday pick ups will be on Thursday, December 31, 2009.

January 18, 2010 (Monday) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday Monday pick ups will be on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Tuesday pick ups will be on Wednesday, January 20, 2010.

February 15, 2010 (Monday) Presidents' Day Monday pick ups will be on Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Tuesday pick ups will be on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.

April 2, 2010 (Friday) Good Friday Thursday pick ups will be on Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Friday pick ups will be on Thursday, April 1, 2010.

May 31, 2010 (Monday) Memorial Day Monday pick ups will be on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Tuesday pick ups will be on Wednesday, June 2, 2010.

Watering Restrictions Print

In cooperation with the Southwest Florida Water Management District in recognition of the need to conserve water, the City of Brooksville adopted Resolution 2007-3 pursuant to Ordinance 539, which limits unnecessary landscaped watering. We would appreciate the cooperation of all our residents in complying with the revised watering restrictions.

FLOWER BEDS, VEGETABLE GARDENS, AND OTHER NON-LAWN AREAS

 

Irrigate as needed using hand watering, micro-irrigation, or other low-volume watering methods.

 

GOLF COURSES, ATHLETIC FACILITIES, CEMETERIES

 

Use IFAS/NRCS best management practices for turfgrass, landscaping and other water use activities that are essential to their operation.

  • No irrigation between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on any weekday, no irrigation is permitted on the weekends (Saturday or Sunday) .
  • Raise mowing heights to the maximum acceptable level as a means of increasing grass drought tolerance.
  • Temporarily reduce the irrigation of each golf course fairway, rough, or non–play area and cemetery turf to no more that one application per week.
  • Temporarily reduce the irrigation of each golf course green and tee to no more than three applications per week.

 

AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS

 

All irrigation systems must be operated so that surface water runoff is eliminated according to best management practices. Overhead irrigation is not permitted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and must be reduced to the maximum extent possible.

 

INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS, STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES, PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS

Use best management practices for water use activities that are essential to their operation.

  • Temporarily curtail all water use activities which are not essential to their operation.
  • Eliminate the use of any fountain or other water feature that does not recycle water and does not provide a necessary water quality benefit.
