The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board consists of seven (7) members and two (2) alternate members. In 1982 funds were donated to the City by members of the McKethan Family. The McKethan Park Recreation Committee was formed to oversee expenditures of these funds, mainly for Capital Outlay items.

On January 25, 1988, City Council appointed the McKethan Park Recreation Committee as an advisory board for both McKethan and Tom Varn Park. As a result, the name of the committee was changed to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board. On August 19, 1991 Council adopted Ordinance No. 500 officially establishing the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board and assigning staggered terms of office to the Board Members. Thereafter, appointed members shall serve four year terms, all expiring in December of their respective term, as amended by Policy No. 4-2008 adopted by City Council 10/6/2008.

The following is a list of the members of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, their terms of office, addresses and phone numbers.

• James V. Brooks, Jr., CHAIRPERSON  Reappointed on 9/15/08 to a four year term of office. Mr. Brooks' term expires on December 31, 2012.
• William E. Chatman, Jr., Reappointed on 12/21/09 to a four year term of office. Mr. Chatman's term expires December 31, 2013.
• Richard Gant, VICE CHAIRPERSON, Reappointed on 08/31/06 to a four year term as a full time member. Mr. Gant's term expires December 31, 2010.
• Mark Blanton, Mr. Blanton was reappointed on 12/21/09 to a four year term of office.  Mr. Blanton's four year term of office expires December 31, 2013.
• Alan K. Garman,  Reappointed on 9/15/08 to a four year term of office. Mr. Garman's term expires December 31, 2012.
• Gary E. Schraut, CRS, Reappointed on 9/15/08 to a four year term of office. Mr. Schraut's term expires on December 31, 2012
• Joe Bernardini, City Council Liason - Voting Member, 201 Howell Ave.; 799-0001 (home). Reappointed December 21, 2009.
• Jill Allen, ALTERNATE, Mrs. Allen was appointed on 9/15/08 to the balance of a four year term of office replacing Sally Sperling through December 31, 2011 
• Toni Maletta, ALTERNATE, Ms. Maletta was appointed on August 21, 2006 to fill Phillip Williams' four year term of office. Ms. Maletta's term of office expires December 31, 2010.
