2017 Healthy Weight Community Champions Print


The Florida Department of Health recognized 98 communities in Florida as Healthy Weight Community Champions – and the City of Brooksville was one.  Robin Napier, Ann-Gayl Ellis, and Ashley Thomas, from the Hernando County Health Department presented City Council with the Award of Recognition during the Regular Council Meeting on Monday, March 6, 2017.  They commended the City of Brooksville for all of the efforts in promoting health weight.

A Touch of Blue Print

The Uptown Art Gallery at Brooksville City Hall is pleased to announce a new and exciting exhibit entitled “A Touch of Blue”.  All artwork will include a “Touch of Blue” in the piece.  This exhibit will feature poetry from Just Poets and Photography from the Spring Hill Camera Club. The “Touch of Blue” exhibit will be on display from March 4, 2017 through April 29, 2017.

2017 Great Brooksvillian Print

This annual program recognizes the outstanding men and women who have made significant positive contributions to the history, culture and/or economy of our great community.  The person selected is honored by the City Council with a reception in their honor.

Ernie Chatman Field at Tom Varn Stadium Print


Coach Chatman was stratetic, but bold; tough, but kind-hearted; stoic, but nurturing; and humble, but proud...a one-of-a-kind coach.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2017, the City of Brooksville, along with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, honored Coach Ernie Chatman in a Field Dedication ceremony.  

William "Ernie" Chatman coached in Hernando County for over 40 years.  At Hernando High School, his alma mater, he coached baseball, cross country, softball, track and field, and boy’s basketball, and served as athletic director.  Coach Chatman collected 21 conference, 18 district, 11 regional, and one state championship.  He coached the 1983 Dixie Majors to a World Series Championship, completed 104 marathons, at least one in all 50 states and Washington DC, held an 8,814 consecutive running streak and coached multiple athletes to professional careers. He was given the Key to the City of Brooksville in 2004, inducted into the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Hernando High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.  

At the age of 66, Coach Ernie Chatman passed away on July 24, 2016.
